Undiscovered Country

Once upon a time, hanging beautiful in space
And covering her face,
Venus is the place.
She nurtures creatures there.
She provides the needs of each
Their grasp exceeds their reach
They don’t practice what they preach.
They think she’s theirs to keep
Dig up her treasures leave her bare
But she’s still there
And they are where?

The future was always over before it had begun
No undiscovered country
For everyone

Now on this lonely rock we have a mistress of our own
We call her home in monotone
But Gaia is her name
She’s our host and we’re her guests
She gives us of her best
And we are blessed

So it should be raining rainbows, shooting from the sun
An undiscovered country
For everyone

But she’s exhaustible. All that colour all that verve
We touch a nerve when we plunder her reserves
And we distribute these in accordance with our lies
And in disguise
We capitalise

So long as the sun keeps shining and all those rivers run
There’s enough to share
For everyone

Children’s children’s child
Here’s what we’ve compiled
Tomes of empty words to make the foolish, somehow, wise
To counteract this greed
We need a tiny seed
That grows and intercedes and opens up our eyes

Naughty morning star, wicked sister in the sky
You and I what can we learn from her
Perhaps we’ll learn respect
These are tenures we must earn
Corners we must turn
Lessons we must learn

We might point our trigger fingers at all those smoking guns
But when it ends it ends
For everyone
